Fondo Antico wants to become a spokesperson for landscapes, colors and local fragrances that embellish and make the Sicilian island unique in the world. So the we have chosen to cultivat e the autochthonous varieties of western Sicily being Grillo, Inzolia, Grecanico, Zibibbo. Obviously Nero d’Avola can not be missing, and for the most intriguing Perricone.

The international varieties are carefully selected: Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah have been able to interpret, in a very unrepeatable way, the richness and strength of the land that characterizes the estate of Fondo Antico.

The harvest usually takes place by hand and by machine from mid-August to mid-October. Grapes are pressed separately to obtain best quality from each parcel.

Tradition, heritage combined with deep knowledge of the terroir and state-of-the-art production techniques led the winery to be what it is today. The vineyards of Fondo Antico are planted on a land of marine origin: The soil rich in calcareous deposits such As rock salt, gypsum, carbonates, sulfates, all elements that contribute to make the company’s wines are more tasty, salty and structured.

The vineyards altitude ranges from 50 to 250 m a.s.l. vineyards that are located at 250 m a.s.l. are planted on a calcareous land, which gives greater structure and elegance to wines, and good base of acidity. While the other varieties are planted at 50 m a.s.l., on a medium clay soil, helping us in making fresher and vigorous wines.
